My husband and I are planning a Greece vacation next year but we are trying to decide on a cruise or flying in and spending a couple of nights in different islands. The cruise we looked into docks at different islands but doesn't stay over night...5 hours is the shortest time. Have any of you taken a cruise before? We have never been on one. We like that everything is paid for but I was hoping to see more of the island then a couple of hours. Please offer some suggestions. It would really help. Thanks.

Both are good ideas. Usually the islands that are worth spending more time on them are Santorini and Mykonos. The cruise ship can take you to other beautiful islands that are only worth staying for a few hours.
What i did was take the cruise and afterwards fly or take a boat to Santorini and Mykonos for some nights. It was worth the extra dollars spent.

I have been in the travel industry for 5 years. I like cruising, but not in the Greek islands. I have sent travelers both ways, so it kind of depends on what you want to see. But your best bet is to go to Athens, stay for a couple of nights to see the sights, then take the ferries (they run on island schedule so don’t expect to be there at the exact time) or the hydrofoils. You can fly as well, but it’s kind of fun to take the ferry. It is difficult to find the schedules this far out to plan, but figure a day or two on a couple of islands. Each are unique and amazing in their own way. Do some google searches for the Greek Islands and you should find some cool websites to tell you more about each place. And watch arriving on days that a cruise is scheduled to be in port or stay on another side of the island you are visiting. The cruise ships can hold a LOT of people so traffic becomes very heavy. If you have anymore questions email and I might be able to help set you in the right direction.

I think it is by plane. I never been on a cruise but last year I went to Greece with a bunch of friends and we had a great time. We took a plane from Zagreb,Croatia (thats where I’m from) to Santorini (beautiful island, very romantic), stayed there for a week and then went by ferri to Crete for another week of fun. From there we had a cruise ship to Venice,Italy.
The best way to plan your trip is to go to your local travel agency and find out if they offer any packages…. That is what I would do… Hope it helps…. Have a great time when you go!!!
